Programs
Preschool programs are crucial for children's holistic development, fostering cognitive, social-emotional, and physical skills while preparing them for future academic success and lifelong learning. The ACLD Tillotson School will be opening an early learning classroom to provide proven supports and services to toddlers with developmental disabilities during their critical years of learning. Look for new early childhood classrooms in Fall 2026!
Evaluation
Center
Coming Fall 2025! The ACLD Tillotson School Evaluation Center will provide comprehensive neuropsychological/ psychoeducational evaluations performed by a Pennsylvania Licensed and Certified School Psychologist. Based on the results of the evaluations, the School Psychologist will prescribe individualized programming and recommendations to best support the individual being evaluated.
Early Childhood Education
ACLD, Inc. is committed to providing lifespan programs for individuals with disabilities to address the unique and evolving needs of this community across all stages of life. These programs aim to provide continuous support, from early childhood through adulthood, ensuring individuals with disabilities have access to the resources, services, and opportunities they need to thrive. HISTORIC IMPACT
1966
AC-ACLD (Allegheny County Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities) was created in Pittsburgh, PA and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization.
1967
ACLD Funded the first teacher-training course on Specific Learning Disabilities at Duquesne University.
1972
The Katharine Dean Tillotson School was founded. It began as a preschool with a Rachelwood Foundation grant responsible for the expansion to an elementary school.
2019-2021
School developed and implemented a virtual learning plan, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2021-2022
The Shaping Youth’s Future Today (ShYFT) Program was developed and a house, located at 3413 Pleasantvue Drive, was purchased. The house went through a major renovation to obtain permits and licenses to operate as an educational program in a residential neighborhood.
2023-2024
The ShYFT program opened and enrolled five (5) students.
